Extrusion has the following general effect on ingredients and formulations as used in animal feed manufacturing  (depending on design or type of extruder and specific operational conditions):

  3. dextrinisation of starch
  4. maximising the rupturing of Oil Cells in oilseeds
  5. maximising the Digestibility of Protein, Fat and FibreExtruded Snack Food
  6. controlling product expansion
  7. Controlling product buoyancy in water
  8. controlling product shape and size
  9. controlling product moisture
  10. controlling texture
  11. stabilisation (for example Rice Bran)
  12. sterilisation
